June Newsletter

We completed the main construction of the Deb Newsome Pencha just in time for the rains to begin. The dry-well system performed flawlessly, however, with rain comes the job of finding the leaks in the now 20-year-old roof. Working on the roof in the African heat was not Patrick's favorite task, but it was necessary. The rains also brought in termite spawning. The water from the rain brings the animals to life, and they were everywhere.

Michele put the Deb Newsome Pencha to use with the furniture around the property with Derryanne, a missionary working in The Gambia with BIMI. They worked with some local children to study for their math exams. This was during the Muslim holiday of Eid-Al-Adha, where they sacrifice a ram every year. This is more commonly known to Christians as God’s command to Abraham to sacrifice Isaac but gave a ram in replacement. Michele taught how God’s command to sacrifice Isaac foreshadowed His sacrifice of His Son. Teaching the atonement and the sacrificial offering of Jesus on the cross for the sin of mankind.

Michele, teammate Joan Schmitz, and other women from Omega Church visited Ebrima and the House of Hope Children's Home. Ebrima and his wife continue to inspire as they provide a Christian upbringing for at-risk youth and teach the love of God. Through God's provision, Ebrima received building funds for a water tower with a prayer room underneath.

Omega Church celebrated Christmas in June as the Samaritan's Purse shoe boxes arrived alongside a gospel message given to each child. Additionally, Omega invited us to participate in a small group pilot program to help grow the church. Patrick continued his theology class and was invited as a guest speaker at the Omega youth retreat, where he taught about service in the church. We also celebrated the 4th of July and the baptism of Clive, a man Patrick worked with back in America. Our hearts were overjoyed to hear of his outward expression of faith.

Additionally, Michele continues the discipleship of Jojo and downloaded the YouVersion Bible app onto Jojo's phone, which offers the Bible in many languages, including Fula, in written and spoken forms. When I pressed play, she was in disbelief, and her eyes widened to the size of quarters. She returned to her house and played it for everyone in her home to hear the truth about Jesus.
